BBQ Smoker

So last Friday I bought a vertical smoker bbq. It stands about 4 feet tall and has 4 racks inside, in addition to a drip tray and a special place for the wood chip box right down over the flame. First thing I smoked on it, of course, was ribs. And while i was at it, i put in some tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapeņo peppers, and onions. with those, I made a real smoky pasta sauce. tasty stuff.

House Ownership

So I've been a week now in my new house. It's nice to own, finally. Got the walls painted in the basement (thanks to those who did it), got all the stuff moved in, some of it unpacked even. Had my first bbq party. Back at work today for the first time in two weeks (95000+ emails later...) and man am I tired. Good thing I can kinda make up my own hours for the next month or so, definitely not coming in this early again...

Rib and Beerfest Kitchener 2008

Mmmm... more ribs... i went the opening day this year, as I had to work night shift that night. Got in there quick, got my ribs, then off to work. I'll go back Sunday afternoon if I can to get more, and to actually get some beer (drinking at, or before, work is frowned upon for some reason...)

My new house

I bought a house! After viewing countless places, sometimes up to 6 in a day (did about 2-3 days a week for a month or so), I found one I liked enough to buy. It just so happened that my realtor was representing the seller too. I got to view it before it even got on the market, which was a good thing, because the day it came on the market I had my offer in at 11am, and he still had *7* people who wanted to see it. I would imagine at least one of them would have immediately placed an offer too. I got in fast enough to lock everyone else out. It is in pretty damn good condition, freshly painted and some other repair jobs too (like new front windows) within the last 2 months. There is also some stuff scheduled to be completed by the seller before I move in too, like new front steps and back patio.

I will be taking possession on Friday August 29th, and moving in probably the following day. The weekend after (Saturday September 6th) I will likely have a party (read: bbq) for anyone who wants to come (assuming that I actually know you, no random strangers).

Looking for a House

so i've been looking at houses recently. looking to buy one, finally. went and viewed a bunch this week, found a couple i like, but they all seem to have a quality that doesnt quite line up with my requirements. ie i found a nice semi, but its got electric heat. thats a bit expensive, and i want forced air, mainly for the airflow, and mostly so that i can have central air conditioning. i guess i keep looking.

Rockwood Tractor Parade 2007

On Thursday I went to the Rockwood Tractor Parade for the first time. Apparently they've been doing this for a couple years now. It's a fairly small rural community there, and what they do is put Christmas lights all over their tractors and parade them down Main Street. It's, uh, kind of interesting. Have a look in the gallery to see what it's all about. I was playing with my camera settings a lot so some of the pictures aren't the best.

Truck vs Snow

Went into work tonight, and there was no snow on the ground. Maybe some white up on the lawns and a little in the corners. Certainly none on the roads and sidewalks, as it had been melted by traffic of one sort of another. Went out for "lunch" at about 2:30am, and yeah, theres 2 inches of snow everywhere, and i actually had to brush off my truck. Going home time, 7am, rolls around and there is 3.5 to 4 inches. Starting to freezing rain too. Actually had to scrape. Just took this picture of the houses across the road from my place. Yeah, it wasnt like that 12 hours ago. You can see on the vans that the slope of the snow is even, so you know its quite a build up. Three words tell the story of who won this fight: four wheel drive. Truck > Snow. I was almost doing the speed limit when other people were going half of it. Hit the gas at a stoplight, slid sideways a little, hit the four wheel drive button, hit the gas again and went nice and straight. Yay truck! On a side note, so glad i stopped at the mall today before going into work to buy new boots...

PS3

So last week i bought a ps3. Wanted to get it before the new crap software emulation one comes out. Wanted to get it so when MGS4 and GTA4 come out i can jus pick up the games instead of fighting for a console too. I ordered it from bestbuy.ca on monday night (abouts midnight) and it arrived at my door thursday morning. And i chose regular shipping! Talk about fast. Tracking information says it only came from Mississauga though.

The game i got with it is The Darkness. Not a bad first person shooter. Its got a nice amount of gore and evil and stuff. The one big gripe i have with it is that the font on the inventory screen is FUCKING SMALL. I actually have to get up and go real close to the TV to read it (i think my tv is a 29"). Maybe it would look better with the composite cables, but that would still only get me 480p (vs 480i). I'll probably just not bother and get an HDMI cable when i eventually buy a new tv though, instead.

Oh yeah, i bought a camera at the same time. A Canon Powershot A570 IS. Maybe i'll finally remember to take that picture of my truck.

Ribfest KW

So apparently this past weekend was Ribfest and Craft Beer Show in Kitchener, at Victoria Park. I didn't know this before Saturday night. Kinda wish i did, i woulda went on Saturday. But at least i got to go on Sunday. I woulda been real pissed if i had missed the whole thing.

There were only 5 rib vendors, but there were also about 10 beer vendors. They beer ticket tent sold small glasses for $5, about 3-3.5 ounces each, for the beer to be sold in (and only in). Why so small? Officially, they were "tasting" glasses. Branded right on the glass was the slogan Quality, not Quantity. That didn't serve most people well, as I saw a couple people go up to the individual vendors, order 1-2, drink them down on the spot, then order more to take back to their table.

Oh yeah, the ribs. I got a full rack from two of the different vendors. First one was real hot, tobasco flavoured. Glad i had beer to wash that down. Second one i brought home with me to eat later, and it was tasty, but even though i got extra sauce (which they initially forgot until i asked again as they were handing it to me) it still could have used more. I like my ribs pretty wet, i guess.

Damn, forgot to take pictures... Left my camera in the truck.

Truck

I bought a new truck today. Ok not new, used, but its new to ME. 2003 GMC Sonoma 4door 4x4 pickup. Its black. I took pictures, but they were on my dad's camera, and my parents internet connection is DIALUP, and yeah, they didnt upload correctly. I suppose i shoulda stuck around to make sure they uploaded alright, but it was working fine at 1/2way done... dunno what happened. I'll take new pictures with my own camera tomorrow or something.

So yesterday i went to Ribfest 2007 in Etobicoke. Ate a lot of ribs. Not as many hot chicks walking around wearing next to nothing this year though, unlike last year. Got a couple pictures of some though. Brought home a rack of ribs as well this year, plan to eat them later today. Also bought a bottle of BBQ sauce from one of the vendors, Billy Bones. Damn that stuff is tasty. Pictures of everything here.

Laptop

so i bought a laptop last week. got a toshiba qosmio f25, bought it used. its got a decent processor, 15" widescreen display, 100gb 7200rpm hard drive, a tv tuner, dvd writer, and all sorts of other neat stuff. its very shiney. sucky part is that it has windows media center 2005 on it. i'm gonna partition it and install linux, i think. havent played with linux on a laptop in a long time. i am pretty sure the tv tuner wont work, but from what i've read the rest of it will. not gonna completely format it and get rid of windows just yet, caue i still want to be able to play ffxi on it. ffxi runs nice and smooth on the geforce go 6600. maybe if i can get it working under wine or something i'll wipe out windows completely.

I tried to be civil with him about transfering it to me, but he wouldnt listen. In his comments he said he was going to redirect it to a porn site. Classy.
